Tune Azure Log Analytics Performance Counters to Save Money

Have you started with Performance Counters in Azure Log Analytics? If you haven’t, check out my post here. If you have, have you considered tuning them? Especially in a lab environment, the default sample intervals are very frequent. If you Tune Azure Log Analytics Performance Counters you can add more counters with less samples to play with a wider array of data.

If you go to your workspace, advanced settings, data, Windows Performance Counters, you can set the intervals.

Many of the defaults here were set to 10 seconds. As you can see I’ve changed all of them, the most frequent of which is 30 seconds. Since this is just a lab environment, I would rather add more counters with less samples than have more samples of less counters.

One thing to note is that, unlike SCOM, where counters can be tuned on a machine level basis, these are global settings for all your Servers. So consider what you want to do before you change these settings in a production environment.
